Tuesday, October 15th is the sole public hearing for the Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission (MIRC) in Richmond. Americans for Prosperity is positioned to again bring hundreds of Virginia activists to the State Capital to tell the commission to vote "NO" on Medicaid expansion.
Here's a quick run down of the impact of Medicaid on the Commonwealth... First, the current Medicaid system is broken. 1 in 4 physicians no longer accept Medicaid patients. Expansion would thrust 400,000 new patients into a system that cannot currently deliver quality care. Secondly, the expense. Expansion will cost Virginia taxpayers an additional $1.3 Billion per year. And, there is much doubt if the federal government can afford to contribute their share. Finally, expansion locks in federal mandates. Once Virginia commits to Medicaid expansion, our state becomes further under control of the "Affordable Care Act".
Americans for Prosperity has been on the forefront defending against Obamacare. This year, AFP-Virginia has had hundreds of Virginia activists at the previous two MIRC meetings. And, they are prepared to return to the Capital this Tuesday to let the commission know to stop this incursion of government over reach and expense.
