Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Defense, U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, displays inadequacy, ineptness during confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill.
Webster's defines a Buffoon as a ludicrous figure. Following Chuck Hagel's testimony, you would think Webster's Dictionary would have his photo next to the definition.
Hagel was void of substance during his confirmation hearing. When questioned on several aspects of his position on military policy and direction, he sounded awash in rhetoric. Typical of the inside the beltway mentality.
To summarize Hagel's buffoonery, here's a short video of the man in his own words during his hearing: Click to view http://youtu.be/f_Xab2X_Yik
Hagel seemed to have walked into the hearing cold and with misconceived graces. A week prior, Senator John Kerry breezed through his hearings for Secretary of State. Hagel on the other hand, seemed to think he had the where with all to pull a "Kerry" and sail through his hearings unscathed at the hands of his former Senate colleagues.
Hagel was unprepared and contradictory through most of his testimony. Republican and Democrat Senators alike chipped away at bumbling Hagel. Two policy questions were muddled in words. Hagel struggled with his position on containment as well as his depth of knowledge regarding sequestration cuts to the military. Further probing by Senators about his previous negative statements versus Israel and outward support of Obama foreign policy persisted during the hearing.
His confirmation is in question. Hagel is receiving equal ill regard from both parties in the Senate. The vote to confirm or decline his nomination will be within the coming week.
