JAMIE RADTKE: AN ACT OF POLITICAL DESPERATION

Now, just weeks away from the Virginia Republican primary for the United States Senate, candidate Jamie Radtke is digging in her heels and going for broke in a political act of desperation.  A campaign that has been spinning it's wheels for over a year needs traction.  In these waning days of the hunt for the nomination, what will be the pay off for Radtke and for the Republican party?

Radtke has been on the attack for weeks, well actually day one of her campaign.  She has slung accusations at the GOP front runner from the beginning.    During most of the the GOP Senate candidate debates, she's elevated her shrill tone trying to land a political blow on former Governor George Allen.  Allen never took the bait and kept a positive message.

What is most telling is the response she's received from two of the candidates.  During the Republican debate in Virginia Beach, candidates E.W. Jackson and Bob Marshall consoled her tone and reminded her that all candidates on the stage were Republican.

Her rhetoric is based on her non-establishment banter from her Tea Party roots.  Thumping her non-establishment drum she has thrown the 11th Commandment (Not to attack fellow Republicans) completely out of the window.

With her campaign remaining in the single digits and campaign funds running low, truly, what does she hope to achieve?  The subject of her attack is more than 50 points above her in polling.  Despite her efforts to springboard her campaign from her Tea Party backing, she has never gained any traction.  And the clock is ticking towards the June 12 primary.

Radtke's sharp tone and attacks may buck the system, but it's adding ammo for the opposition.  No doubt Democrat opponent Tim Kaine is savoring every attack on George Allen.  Great footage for a media blitz on the Republican this Fall.

As a matter of perspective, Jamie Radtke may be costing the party and herself.  Her longer term prospects for running for office are dimming with each lash against Republicans.  Should she pursue another run for state or federal position, she may have crossed the line of no return to the Republican party.

Virginia Republicans have a great sense of memory and loyalty.  This girl may have just poked the wrong elephant.

MEMORIAL DAY IN PERSPECTIVE

Veterans that are with us and the fallen deserve America's time and conscious respect for their sacrifices.  Their labors in harms way have settled the waters of discontent and war. They have defended liberty in many ways and on many continents.

What is lost is the perspective of our society.  Most Americans will fire up the grill, crack open a beer and kick back for a three day weekend.  Time off is nice, but what do you think has afforded you that liberty?  The defense of our country has provided that to you.  Would you have that same sense of ease in the Middle East? Consider how our society, our lifestyle, our everyday regimen would function if it were not for the freedom to live a comfortable life.

Enjoy your freedom.  Yet, take pause for those who had the grit to defend it.  Enjoy your liberty.  Yet, remember the fallen who gave their all to sustain it.  Enjoy time with your family.  Yet, remember those who came home without limb or with disability to their family.

Demonstrating our appreciation for the service of our men and women is appropriate and needed in our culture.  America certainly has made long strides in showing our respect since the Vietnam era.  Our challenge is to be diligent in our tribute.

Take time this day on your part or with your family to pause in remembrance.  Whether you go to a local Memorial Day ceremony, parade or post a flag in honor.  Many families take this time to educate their sons and daughters by visiting a museum or memorial.  These are all notable measures to pay tribute.  Yet, one should take Memorial Day further.  Everyday when you see a veteran or active military thank them.  Shake their hand.  And, let them know America appreciates and honors their will to protect our freedom.  This gesture of honor is your way to advance respect and tribute on a personal level, perpetually.

In memorium, we honor the 1.1 million fallen throughout the history of our military that gave their all for America.

FINAL VIRGINIA GOP SENATE DEBATE ANALYSIS

As many vacationers hit the road for Memorial Day weekend, Virginia candidates for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate were focused on the final debate.  The Fairview Marriott of Falls Church was buzzing with activity and anticipation to hear how the four candidates would perform and position their campaign message leading to the June 12 primary.

Questions emerged from supporters and media prior to the debate if the same trend of performance would carry for all four candidates.  Many speculated if Jamie Radtke would continue to focus time on George Allen.  Many were excited to hear the passion of E.W. Jackson.  Allen supporters came out to hear the front-runner’s message.  And, what would Delegate Marshall offer to connect with voters?

This final debate introduced six questions for the candidates, and were delivered by moderator, Dr. Bob Holsworth.  The Republican Party of Virginia had asked voters to submit questions for the candidates through the RPV’s Facebook site.  The questions covered topics including:  regulations to eliminate to strengthen the economy, support for family insurance coverage up to age 26, their position on the recent General Assembly judicial bench decisions, their stance on a declaration of war, sequestration cuts to the defense budget, and the role of the federal government with education.  Each of the candidates provided opening and closing remarks.

This debate offered a stark twist to what many had observed from previous debates.  The main change-up was Jamie Radtke offering an even-tempered performance.  Absent were the shrill moments of previous debates.  Yes, she packed a volume filled delivery, but the verbal curve balls lobbed at Allen in the two former debates were absent.  E.W. Jackson, Bob Marshall and George Allen continued their debate performance on the mark and on message through the debate.

Jamie Radtke maintained an even keel approach to staying on her message as opposed to chiding Allen.  Her main theme throughout the debate was her focus on debt and deficit reduction.  She laced her comments back to her two-cent plan as she had in prior debates.  Radtke responded to how she would strengthen the economy by eliminating Obama care, ending the EPA & Department of Education, and by striking down the Dodd-Frank amendment.  She continued with the question of defense cuts by stating her two cents plan would contain our spending so we would not have to take draconian measures like Greece.  Radtke’s remarks on healthcare included block grants to states for Medicaid and support of the Paul Ryan plan to bolster Medicare.  Rounding out her answers, she remains opposed to activist judges. And, stated she would stand with the Constitution to have Congress issue a declaration of war.

Radtke, to many in the audience, seemed almost a different candidate.  Obviously, she chose to pull back the talons and to project a more statesman tone.  She stayed on her message.  There were a few opportunities she could have chimed in on George Allen, but she, for now, is letting her recent radio ad purchase do the talking.

George Allen took the podium with balanced responses and the character of the front runner.  He delivered a very upbeat and passionate introductory statement with more volume and gravitas than previously.

His intro concluded saying, “2012 is this generation’s rendezvous with destiny, and our freedom is in the balance.”

The former Governor delivered his principled conservative comments through the body of the debate.  Allen stated that the federal government’s role in defending our country should not be impeded by arcane defense cuts.  He touted his support of the Balanced Budget Amendment with Presidential line item veto as a key position to controlling spending and keeping government within its means.  His solutions for health care included health savings accounts, allowing businesses to pool funds to purchase insurance and giving authority to states to implement Medicare.  Allen’s comments about judicial appointments pointed out the importance of the Senate’s role in Supreme Court appointments.  He opposes the appointment of activist judges.

Allen stated, “I don’t want judges who will apply their own views.  I want judges to apply the law, not invent the law.”

Allen’s response to the role of federal government in education was well received by the audience.  He reviewed how education was a key part of his focus as Governor.  He stated how the states should have the primary role in administering education.  Allen continued with strong support of assuring students are provided the education that will give them technological skills to be competitive.

All in all Allen performed with resolved character and principles that befit the role of a conservative front-runner.

E.W. Jackson energized the room with his passion and respect for the Constitution.    His opening remarks led with his commitment that it is now time to end the tenure of ‘King’ Barack Obama.

He continued stating the future of America, “…is bowing to none, second to none, America is back!”

E.W. Jackson’s response to the Facebook questions demonstrated his belief in the Constitution and hope for America’s future.  He reeled off a list of departments he would end to curb spending and reduce federal regulation.  Including the EPA and  Departments of Education & Energy.  He continued citing outrage that the Obama administration is advancing a proposed, new real estate tax on individual property owners.  Jackson's solutions for health care pointed to the importance of job growth and a market based approach to assuring affordable insurance.  He stated his opposition to judges with a social agenda.

Continuing Jackson said, “(I would) put a hold on any judge that would not protect the sanctity of life.”

Overall, E.W. Jackson captured the attention of the audience and projected a persona that definitely has strength in the political arena.

Delegate Bob Marshall rounded out the final debate with a measured performance.  He delivered a more serious tone than prior debates.  He ditched the ice breakers from the first debate for a more purpose driven response.  Marshall’s opening remarks spoke his focus to protect the right to life and how he as a Senator would take action from day one.  Marshall indicated his solutions for health care included assuring insurance portability, stopping the ‘creeping tyranny’ of Washington and steps to assure medical school graduates understand the Hippocratic Oath with regard to the protection of life.  He spoke of removing the Department of Education with the federal government.  His position on student loans involves assuring the loans are paid in full and involving parents as co-signers for education loans.  Marshall’s comments on the declaration of war struck a chord with the audience.  He elaborated saying the pre-emptive policy gives enemies the same notion to attack the United States.  With spending reduction and reducing regulation, Delegate Marshall stated the need to repeal undue energy regulations like cap & trade.  His comments regarding judicial appointments echoed his sentiments from the General Assembly.

Delegate Marshall stated, “The oath of office is serious.  We need to stop activist judges.”

Marshall delivered on his solid, social conservative values in the final debate.  His passion and belief in the sanctity of life was a common thread.

As a wrap for commentary, this debate set the stage for the upcoming primary.  All four candidates delivered their message.  Jamie Radtke tempered her approach.  And, George Allen again emerged as the favorite staying true to his principles and values.

U.S. SENATOR TOM COBURN ENDORSES GEORGE ALLEN

Another solid endorsement for the candidacy of George Allen for United States Senate.  Senator Tom Coburn announced his endorsement and strong support for George Allen for Senate.

Senator Coburn's endorsement carries clout when you know where he stands.  First of all, Coburn is not seeking re-election to the U.S. Senate.  Coburn has been sort of a rogue in the Senate since his decision not to return to Capitol Hill.  Hence, Coburn would not mince words or feel establishment pressure to sway his support.  Secondly, Senator Coburn is a debt and deficit hawk.  He is at the top of the list in the Senate about cutting spending and exposing government waste.  This is the key reason his endorsement of George Allen has mojo.  Another is a dig at Democrat Tim Kaine and Tea Party loyalist Jamie Radtke.  Coburn's history as a fiscal hawk throws water on Kaine and Radtke's efforts to paint Allen as a spender.  Coburn's recent rogue tongue would not endorse someone who would not be fiscally strong.  Finally, contender Jamie Radtke has again been snubbed by another heavy weight, Tea Party backed Senator -Tom Coburn.  Yet again, Radtke fails to gain any credibility regarding the national spending.

Here's an excerpt from the formal endorsement for George Allen by Senator Tom Coburn,
“I’m proud to announce my support for George Allen.  He was one of only 14 Senators who stood with me when I led the effort to eliminate funding for the infamous ‘Bridge to Nowhere.’ It didn’t make us popular with many of our colleagues but we did what was right. George is ready to fight Washington’s reckless spending.  Future generations need leaders like George Allen stepping up today, so they won’t be forced to shoulder the burdens of Washington’s continued failures tomorrow.”
Senator Coburn also noted George Allen's strong focus to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment.  Allen has backed the Balanced Budget Amendment since he served as a Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.  George Allen continued to support the amendment in the Senate including language to authorize Presidential line item veto.  Coburn is the Senate's key author and co-sponsor of legislation for the Balanced Budget Amendment.

SUSAN ALLEN: AMBASSADOR FOR VIRGINIA

When many Virginians speak of former Governor George Allen, they promptly think of his wife, Susan Allen.  Susan has shown her love for Virginia, not only in support of George's political life, but as a ambassador for the Commonwealth.

Susan has criss crossed the Commonwealth for decades.  Meeting, greeting, and speaking with Virginians.  She, as well as her husband, have had their ear to the ground in every corner of Virginia.  Susan remarked recently that she has clearly noticed changes in the down economy that have effected Virginians.  As she visits civic groups, conservative circles and businesses, the impact of the economy is real to Virginia's former first lady.

Susan Allen stated that George's motivation to return to the Senate is to work for the Virginians based on what they have observed through their interactions with citizens.  Susan Allen stated,
"Our country is at a crucial time.  We see changes happening in Washington that are effecting families and individuals throughout the Commonwealth...that really concern us.  Whether it is mandated health care that's coming down and having a huge fiscal impact on families and businesses, or whether it is regulations that is impacting farmers ability to produce.  Whether it is all the rules and regulations that are coming down on businesses to grow."  Continuing, "...You can go around the Commonwealth and nearly every body will agree, they know somebody, they've talked to somebody or they themselves they've been in this boat.  Where there has not been the job opportunity made to them because of this downturn in the economy."
Susan continued with how George's experience and focus will represent what the citizens of Virginia need.  She stated his commitment to reducing the size of the federal government is key.  Lower regulation will spur small business and job growth.  In addition, his long standing commitment to a balanced budget amendment will curb spending and help to control the national debt.  George's vision to tap into Virginia's energy resources were also mentioned as a boom for the economy and job growth.

As Mrs. Allen spoke it was evident she and George were tuned in to the expectations of Virginians.  She expects positive results through her husband.  With the backing of voters in the upcoming primary and in November, George can focus on taking effective action to the United States Senate.

ROMNEY NOMINATION PROJECTED BY MAY 29

The Republican nomination now seems to be right around the corner for front runner Mitt Romney.  His delegate count is nearing the required number of 1,144 to secure the Republican nomination for President.

A quick look at the GOP delegate count shows Romney on the verge of clinching the nomination.  Currently, the count stands:  Romney 989, Santorum 264, Gingrich 141 and Ron Paul 104.  Running the numbers, Romney only needs 155 to take the nomination.

Upcoming primaries will put Romney over the top.  On May 22, Kentucky and Arkansas will offer a total of 80 delegates.  And, on May 29, Texas' primary boasts 155 delegates.  Of the three primaries, a grand total of 235 delegates are available.

The American Maverick Predictor (TAM) forecasts Mitt Romney to win the Republican nomination on May 29.  Romney only needs 155 delegates to earn the nomination with 235 delegates available in three primary states.  Since all three GOP challengers have suspended their campaigns, Romney has been trending to take an average of 67% of delegates.  This metric puts him just over the top in Texas.

The only bogey out there is that Texas is Congressman Ron Paul's home state.  Should Texas voters show up in mass in support of their home state man, then this could take Romney's nomination a little farther.  However, the California primary with a whopping 172 delegates is right around the corner on June 5.

The TAM Predictor is a election prediction feature for upcoming elections, primaries, caucuses, etc.  Real polling data is used to determine an aggregate score to select a candidate's outcome.  The TAM (The American Maverick) Predictor only uses polling data produced within 36 hours of the election.  Data sources may include:  Rasmussen, Real Clear Politics, PPP, Quinnipiac, Gallup, Survey USA, and others.  This methodology is key in identifying momentum of a candidate in the final days.   The TAM Predictor has a 96% accuracy.

THE HYPOCRISY OF BARACK OBAMA

What thoughts flow through your mind as you view Barack Obama speaking?  The thought of distrust or unsettling disgust?  Perhaps, the quick grab for the remote to change the channel.  America questions our direction.  Questions our leadership.  And, now, questions the President of the United States.

America, in growing numbers, questions the very words of Barack Obama.  Not just conservatives and Republicans, but independents and Democrats.  Let's be blunt.  The man has serious integrity problems.

Although somewhat nauseating, I invite you to not change the TV channel.  Listen to what he is proclaiming.  When you analyze the context of what he is saying, more and more, you will find he is an outward expert on doublespeak.

Doublespeak is a method used by propagandists throughout history.  It is used to contort the perspective of the populous into believing all is on the level.  Painting a vision of mellowness and malaise.  This provides just enough haze on the truth to allow government leaders with deceptive intent to take the very actions they accuse of others.  The despicable art of painting your opposition as yourself.  This action gives them room to move on their agenda while putting their opposition on defense with the media and the public.

Let's explore some striking examples using this method by Barack Obama and his political machine.  For instance, when he says Republicans are being political on a crucial issue, Barack's own political minions are watering down issues on every network.  When he speaks of Republicans blocking energy bills in Congress, Democrat Harry Reid in the Senate takes no action on several House bills to spur energy production.  Barack speaks of his current efforts to promote energy.  Yet under his administration, the EPA, Department of Energy and other bureaucrats have severely restricted the U.S. energy sector with stifling regulation and red tape.  When he speaks of supporting business growth, his crony capitalism has suppressed and grounded business development through taxation and regulation.  Barack espoused how his Obamacare would contain the costs of insurance, yet individual premiums have skyrocketed and he granted premium waivers to unions.  Obama's pundits hit the media saying he is not in campaign mode.  The same day he holds four campaign events in New York City raising $5 million.  In 2012, he has held over 130 campaign events.  Now, think about how many times he publicly proclaims to support Israel.  Then, his administration stands by or (some analysts say) takes an active role in churning up the turmoil in Egypt, Syria and other countries near Israel.  The list goes on and on.  Just listen to the extent where you catch him in the act without losing your mind.

What is past is present.  When you consider the political and philosophical mentality of Barack Obama, all becomes clear.  His childhood was mired under the influences of communism and atheism.  He has been melded through his life by leftists like:  Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorn, Harvard's Derrick Bell, liberation minister Jeremiah Wright, and more.  He has commented several times of his admiration for the political methods of President Woodrow Wilson.  Wilson's administration is known for its progressive agenda and stunning propaganda tactics.  Barack and many of his inner machine are on past record for ascribing to the methods of radical progressive Saul Alinsky.  Alinsky is the extreme radical author of the propaganda handbook, Rules for Radicals.  Truly, Barack was cultivated from the ideals and tactics of the far left.

The role of the American citizen is to bear witness to the words and deeds of Barack Obama.  To call him on his smearing of reality.  To expose blatant acts of deception and hypocrisy.  And, to hold him accountable to his oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

RON PAUL CALLING IT QUITS?

Ron Paul has been limping along as a candidate versus front runner Mitt Romney for the Republican Presidential nomination.  Texas Congressman Paul has persisted as the outlier since Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and others suspended their campaigns.

A recent letter to his supporters marks the first discernible statement by Paul to curtail his hunt for the nomination.  One key statement from the letter from Paul is as follows,
"Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future."
Based on this and other statements it is clear that Ron Paul is looking to garner political 'ammo' leading up to the RNC Convention in Tampa.  Paul has used a strategy that was based on collecting delegates from states that had non-binding caucuses.  Paul's campaign and supporters were able to go directly to state conventions, win delegates from the convention floor and over time accumulate delegates for the nomination.

Although his strategy was once for the nomination, it is apparent Ron Paul is looking for clout as Mitt Romney moves towards securing the nomination.  There are a couple of key points to consider for Ron Paul:
  • He will be asking for a prime time slot to address the RNC Convention.
  • He will assert his delegates to insert his positions into the party platform.
  • He is ending his term as Congressman this year.  Will he find a role in Romney's administration?

A look at the delegate count shows the imminence of Romney's nomination.  Currently, the GOP Presidential delegate count stands as:  Mitt Romney 970, Rick Santorum 263, Newt Gingrich 141, and Ron Paul with 101.  1,144 delegates are required to earn the Republican nomination for President.  Romney only needs 174.  As opposed to Ron Paul who needs 1,043.

So, the question.  Will he run independently?  If he did, he would have to go it alone.  Both the Libertarian Party and the Constitutional Party have selected their respective candidates.  Money wise, Ron Paul's campaign has only $1.8 million on hand.  Hardly enough to launch a national, independent Presidential campaign.  And, the bottom line as to why he would not run.  Paul would not want to cause a further rift in party politics with the thought of tarnishing the political aspirations of his son, Ron Paul.  So, game over Mr. Paul.

AFP RALLY FOCUS ON VIRGINIA'S RESOURCES

A recent Americans for Prosperity rally in Virginia connected the dots of how policy impediments to energy resources have impacted America.  The rally featured speakers Sandy Bourne, formerly of Heartland Institute, and WCHV's Joe Thomas.  They discussed how our country's current state of economy have been affected by gas prices, inflation and our natural resources.

Sandy Bourne uncovered two notable points of impact by the Obama administration.  One, that the administration is working to raise ethanol standards from 10% to 15%.  Sounds harmless right?  Wrong.  All vehicles can only run on 10% or less ethanol in gasoline.  The complete United States vehicle fleet would need replacement, except for current flex fuel vehicles.  Imagine what that would do to our wallets.  And, how to dispose of all obsolete vehicles.  Secondly, we know EPA and Obama mandates have prevented off shore drilling.  Yet there is more.  The administration is suppressing efforts in Virginia to mine for an extremely good revenue resource-Uranium.  That's right, Uranium.  A core component to nuclear energy. Virginia has the world's seventh largest Uranium deposit.  Uranium exploration and mining would be a major job creator and strong revenue source for the Commonwealth.

WCHV's lead personality and host of the Daily Constitutional, Joe Thomas, addressed the rally talking about individual freedom.  He differentiated Americans from other country's workers.  Citing Americans having the drive to pursue opportunities in a free market.  Noting that American workers are exceptional for applying our skills and  passion to work for the betterment of our families, our community and our country.

The AFP rally was part of a national campaign with the theme, "Stop Tanking America."  AFP Virginia state director, Audrey Jackson, connected with volunteers for support for upcoming election activity.  Visit the AFP Virginia website at http://www.americansforprosperity.org/virginia

ACU, NRA ENDORSE GEORGE ALLEN

Former Governor and current candidate for the Republican nomination for United States Senate, George Allen, received two major endorsements touting his conservative credentials.  The American Conservative Union and the National Rifle Association made announcements supporting George Allen for his campaign for U.S. Senate.

The American Conservative Union (ACU) is the core organization and encompasses the largest number of grassroots conservatives in America.  The ACU cited George Allen's principles of conservative leadership for fiscal responsibility, government transparency and accountability, and pro-life policies.  Allen has earned a 93 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) endorsed George Allen based on his stellar record of defending the Second Amendment.  In addition, George Allen has been a leader for more than three decades in protecting liberties through the Second Amendment, enacting truth-in-sentencing, and supporting victims, their families and law enforcement professionals.  He has consistently earned an A or A+ rating from the NRA.

Democrat challenger, Tim Kaine, has received a NRA rating of F, which is the lowest possible rating.  The ACU does not rank Kaine based on his hard line left wing legacy.

Former Governor George Allen is on the November 6th ballot in the Commonwealth of Virginia for United States Senate.

FEDERAL INMATE SOAPS OBAMA IN WEST VIRGINIA

Inmate No. 11593-051
Federal inmate number 11593-051, Keith Judd, was on the ballot Tuesday challenging Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for U.S. President during West Virginia's 2012 primary.  (By the way, this is no joke.)

Judd amassed a considerable amount of votes in Tuesday's primary versus the sitting President.  The inmate received 41% of the ballot vote, and won 10 counties.  Judd totaled over 70,000 votes versus over 100,000 votes for President Obama.  This technically qualifies Judd to receive delegate votes for the Democrat National Convention later this year in Charlotte, NC.  According to DNC and West Virginia Democrat rules, he will be eligible to receive delegates after garnering 15% of the vote.

A quote from the federal inmate after learning of his results said, "I'm going all the way to the convention, baby!  ...You bet the DNC Convention will be fun.  At this rate, I might have enough support for a floor fight!"  Attending the DNC Convention may be out of the question.  Judd, a bona fide citizen of West Virginia, is currently serving a 210 month sentence at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for dire threats he made in 1999.

President Barack Obama
Some other rather hilarious quotes from Keith Judd are, "If I knew it was this easy to beat Obama, I would have filed in more states."  Judd commented about his ability to communicate to the outside world, "Thanks to my (Democrat) party that funds prison internet cafes...the Twitter account is here."  And a golden line from inmate number 11593-051, "From the Big House to the White House!"

Judd also tweeted directly to Barack Obama's Twitter account the following, "@BarackObama, I hereby announce I will suspend my campaign in exchange for a pardon.  Deal?"

Judd also stated he was taking suggestions for his VP pick.  The American Maverick thought former Democrat candidate and current court defendant, John Edwards, may be his best running mate.

What appears as somewhat of a swipe at Obama, may have a under story.  West Virginia Democrats are profoundly represented by union works in the energy sector.  Rhetoric by Obama and his green energy policies have had a restrictive impact on coal production.  The administration's policies on energy appear to be the catalyst of discontent by West Virginia voters.  If the results of this primary are a forecast for Obama, count West Virginia as a red state for pro-energy Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.

RADTKE SWINGS AND MISSES

A vast amount of the media took the usual route with covering the Roanoke debate of candidates for the Virginia Republican nomination.  Most reporters performed admirably in filing the statements of the GOP candidates.  However, one overlooked moment was not effectively reported.

A question was posed to the candidates asking there opinion of the size and effectiveness of the Department of Homeland Security.  Candidate Jamie Radtke, former Chair of the Virginia Federation of Tea Party Patriots, laid out a line that chilled the room filled with media and the public.  She answered the core part of the question with the need to reduce the size of government.  Then, she continued about the federal infringement of civilian rights.  She ended her response stating,
"The best defense for Americans is the Second Amendment.  That's the best defense."
Groans of discontent by the audience followed her over the top response.  In many ways, her crass statement turned off the public.  The audience proceeded to effectively tune her out for the rest of the debate.

Radtke attempted to land verbal blows on Allen throughout the debate.  None landed.  And, the audience quivered every time she attempted to attack one of the candidates.  She's attempting to gain traction against the front runner to boost her poll numbers.  However, her attempts are appearing more desperate than effective.

Obviously the clock is ticking for Radtke.  With very low polling numbers and only weeks until the primary, more of her futile scorched earth tactics are sure to be on the horizon.

The latest polling has former Governor George Allen with a commanding lead for the Republican nomination.    A Washington Post poll shows Allen with 62%, Delegate Bob Marshall with 12%, Radtke with 5% and E.W.  Jackson with 3% of likely voters.

SANTORUM ENDORSES MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT

Following a one on one hour long meeting in Pittsburgh, Rick Santorum extended his support to Mitt Romney to defeat Barack Obama. The way Santorum communicated his endorsement was somewhat stand-offish at best.  Santorum released his statement via email to his campaign supporters late Monday night.  According to several sources, a formal, public endorsement of Mitt Romney by Santorum is being coordinated in the near term.

To digest the context of Rick Santorum's endorsement, read the actual letter sent to Santorum supporters, word for word, as follows:
Friend
Thank you again for all you did as one of my strongest and committed supporters. Your belief in our campaign helped us start a movement of Americans who believe deeply that our best days are ahead as long as we fight to strengthen our families, unshackle our economy and promote freedom here and around the world. Karen and I will be forever grateful for the support, kindness and commitment you showed us, as well as our children, over these last months.
On Friday, Governor Romney came to Pittsburgh for an over-hour long one-on-one meeting. The conversation was candid, collegial and focused on the issues that you helped me give voice to during our campaign; because I believe they are essential ingredients to not only winning this fall, but turning our country around.
While the issue of my endorsement did not come up, I certainly have heard from many of you who have weighed in on whether or not I should issue a formal endorsement. Thank you for your counsel, it has been most helpful. However, I felt that it was completely impossible for me to even consider an endorsement until after a meeting to discuss issues critical to those of us who often feel our voices are not heard by the establishment: social conservatives, tea-party supporters, lower and middle income working families.
Clearly without the overwhelming support from you all, I never would have won 11 states and over 3 million votes, and we would not have won more counties than all the other candidates combined. I can assure you that even though I am no longer a candidate for president, I will still continue to fight every day for our shared values - the values that made America the greatest country in the history of the world.
During our meeting I felt a deep responsibility to assess Governor Romney's commitment to addressing the issues most important to conservatives, as well his commitment to ensuring our appropriate representation in a Romney administration.
The family and its foundational role in America's economic success, a central point of our campaign, was discussed at length. I was impressed with the Governor's deep understanding of this connection and his commitment to economic policies that preserve and strengthen families. He clearly understands that having pro-family initiatives are not only the morally and economically right thing to do, but that the family is the basic building block of our society and must be preserved.
I also shared with Governor Romney my belief that we cannot restore America as the greatest economic engine the world has ever seen until we return America to being a manufacturing superpower. He listened very carefully to my advice on this matter, and while our policy prescriptions differed, he clearly expressed his desire to create more opportunities for those that are feeling left behind in this economy.
As it is often said, "personnel is policy." I strongly encouraged Governor Romney as he builds out his campaign staff and advisors that he add more conservative leaders as an integral part of his team. And you can be sure that I will work with the Governor to help him in this task to ensure he has a strong team that will support him in his conservative policy initiatives.
Of course we talked about what it would take to win this election. As you know I started almost every speech with the phrase that this was the most important election since the election of 1860 and four more years of President Obama is simply not an option. As I contemplated what further steps I will take, that reality weighed heavy on me. The America we know is being fundamentally changed to look more like a European socialist state than the land of opportunity our founding fathers established.
Freedom and personal responsibility are being replaced with big government dependency. The greatest and most productive workers in the world are being hamstrung by excessive regulations making it impossible to compete. Our healthcare system had been socialized, and the worth of each life dictated by some government bureaucrat. Our allies are insulted while our enemies are appeased. And our religious beliefs and freedom have come under attack.
What is even more troubling is what a second term of an Obama administration could bring. President Obama's admission to the Russians that he will have more flexibility in a second term can only be translated to "if you thought I was liberal in the first four years you haven't seen anything yet!"
The primary campaign certainly made it clear that Governor Romney and I have some differences. But there are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government, and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong and marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am also comfortable with Governor Romney on foreign policy matters, and we share the belief that we can never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons. And while I had concerns about Governor Romney making a case as a candidate about fighting against Obamacare, I have no doubt if elected he will work with a Republican Congress to repeal it and replace it with a bottom up, patient, not government, driven system.
Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated. The task will not be easy. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime.
My conversation with Governor Romney was very productive, but I intend to keep lines of communication open with him and his campaign. I hope to ensure that the values that made America that shining city on the hill are illuminated brightly by our party and our candidates thus ensuring not just a victory, but a mandate for conservative governance.
Karen and I know firsthand how difficult the campaign trail can be particularly as governor Romney faces relentless attacks from the democrats. We have been praying for him and his family and will continue to do so in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you again for all you have done for us, and I look forward to working together to defeat President Obama this fall and to protect faith, family, freedom and opportunity in America.
With Gratitude,
Rick Santorum

The above is the full verbatum statement sent by Rick Santorum to his campaign supporters by email.

ROMNEY POISED TO TAKE NC, IN & WV

Yes, Mitt Romney now is the 'presumptive' Republican nominee for President.  With Newt Gingrich & Rick Santorum bowing out and Ron Paul too far down with delegates, the coast is clear for Romney to sweep the remaining state primaries.

Tuesday presents three state primaries for Romney.  Including:  North Carolina, Indiana and West Virginia.  Of the three, North Carolina is considered a key battleground state for the general election on November 6.

More of a formality The American Maverick (TAM) Predictor selects Mitt Romney to win all three primaries.  This will add 132 delegates to Romney's current delegate count of 865.

Each state has a moderate delegate count to offer.  Including:  North Carolina with 55, Indiana with 46 and West Virginia with 31 delegates.  Even with Romney taking all delegates from Tuesday's primary, he will still be a little short of the attaining the minimal delegate count for the GOP nomination.  1,144 delegates are required to win the Republican Presidential nomination.

After Tuesday's primaries Mitt Romney will only need 147 delegates to win the nomination.  Looking at the upcoming primaries, Romney could secure the nomination as early as the May 22 with Kentucky and Arkansas.  At the latest, the TAM Predictor is forecasting Mitt Romney will earn the nomination by the May 29 Texas primary.

THE SUPREME COURT: OBAMA'S BEST FRIEND?

Sometimes a contrarian point of view can provide perspective, even if a lauded competitor, like Barack Obama, could gain the advantage.  Consider the upcoming decision by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on Obama's trillion dollar health care plan.  A strike down by the court may yield more positives than negatives for President Obama.

So, let's roll with the scenario that the Supreme Court rules Obamacare completely unconstitutional.  This may come at some dismay to Obama, yet in a twist it may be just what he needs to win re-election.  Here's a couple of angles to consider:

Gels Obama's support.  Striking down the health care law would help Obama coalesce his base.  Creating sympathy for him and the Democrats to return to power to pass another similar health care bill.  In essence, Obama could use the Supreme Court ruling to rally his left wing base to drive his re-election.

Reduces senior angst.  Right now there are a vast majority of seniors greatly concerned about how Obama's health care policy will adversely effect their medicare and access to their physician of choice.  This significant block of voters is mobilizing as they begin to see the law take away their options.  With the Supreme Court striking down Obamacare, this could diffuse the anxiety of senior voters.  America's health care would return to the tried and true system.  Without Obamacare taking effect, what beef would seniors have against Barack and their health care?

Surge in jobs & business spending.  Perhaps the biggest payoff for Obama following a Supreme Court defeat could be a upswing in the economy.  Consider this, thousands of businesses of all sizes have been holding back hiring and reserving cash for the impact of Obamacare upon their operation.  With SCOTUS ruling a strike down, businesses could see this as a green light to spend that cash and hire more.  Corporations and small businesses alike could trigger enough short term hiring and spending to significantly elevate key factors such as GDP, labor statistics, inventory, and consumer confidence.  A boost in these economic factors could be just enough for Obama to justify his re-election.

Of course, this is conjecture.  However, it is plausible to see how what most would think as a defeat against Obama could actually turn in to a boost to his campaign.  As mentioned, such action could firm up his base for the election, significantly reduce heat for him with senior voters and possibly be a green light for the economy.

The vexing question posed is: Are you most interested in defeating Obama from re-election?  Or, most interested in having Obamacare ruled unconstitutional?

KAINE LEANS ON OUT OF STATE DONORS

A report issued by the Virginia Public Access Project indicates Democrat hopeful for United States Senate, Tim Kaine, is taking a high percentage of campaign contributions from out of state donors.  The VPAP report shows Kaine collecting $3,806,003 from individual donors outside of Virginia.  This adds to speculation of outside influence on the campaign of Tim Kaine.

The Republican front runner for U.S. Senate, former Governor George Allen, reported a definite counter to Kaine's outside leanings.  The VPAP report shows Allen has raised 40 cents out of every dollar from individuals in Virginia.  He raised 50% more funds from Virginians than Kaine.  Kaine raised more than 50 cents of every dollar from out of state donors.  VPAP clearly shows Allen receiving a total of $2,491,953 from in state donors.

Governor Allen also trumps his GOP challengers with fund raising.  According to VPAP, Allen has raised a total of $6,137,826 for his campaign for U.S. Senate.  The other GOP challengers trail significantly with Jamie Radtke reporting $707,510, E.W. Jackson with $93,379 and Delegate Bob Marshall reporting $32,626.  Allen's campaign war chest will serve him well as the election gathers momentum.

PPP POLL INDICATES STRENGTH FOR ALLEN

A poll produced by Public Policy Polling (PPP), indicates Virginia voters prefer George Allen as their nominee over other rival Republicans.  The PPP poll   announced George Allen has a commanding lead over the other three GOP challengers.  Virginia voters polled indicated 68% of them would select George Allen as their choice to compete for the United Senate seat versus Democrat Tim Kaine.

Governor Allen's strong connection with voters downplays his GOP challengers.  With the June 12 Republican primary just weeks away, challengers E.W. Jackson, Jamie Radtke and Bob Marshall, are running out of time to connect with Virginians.  The GOP challengers could only garner the following in the PPP poll, including:  8% Delegate Bob Marshall, 3% for tea party backed Jamie Radtke and 2% for E. W. Jackson.  20% of the voters remained undecided.

Former Governor George Allen continues a strong move towards the nomination.  His solid performance in the first of three debates positions Allen for a dominant showing.  Allen has worked to secure the Republican nomination while keeping his eye on defeating former Governor and DNC Chair Tim Kaine in November.

REPUBLICAN UNITY TOUR ON THE HORIZON

Former Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain indicated many GOP "All-stars" may soon tour with presumed nominee, Mitt Romney.  Herman Cain stated on several news shows there is planning between the former Republican candidates to hold joint events in key electoral states along side of Mitt Romney.

Speculation by Fox News' Shawn Hannity indicated the likes of Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Tim Pawlenty, Michelle Bachmann and others may be part of the plan.  There was no mention of Ron Paul or Sarah Palin.

Cain indicated he had recently met with Mitt Romney to on-board his support.  Herman indicated that Romney was very open to many principles and ideas that Cain wanted to advance.  Including a simplified tax plan.

The Republican "unity" tour as it was termed would be a key initiative for Mitt Romney's campaign.  Holding several prominent events with former challengers would go a long way for Romney to consolidate support of the Republican base.  Most importantly, he would be looking to reassure conservatives that he will advance key measures for debt reduction, energy policy, health care reform and reduction of policies restraining the economy.

Cain indicated the "tour" would be a summer initiative leading to the Republican convention in Tampa.

GOP SENATE PRIMARY DEBATE ANALYSIS

The first primary Senate debate for Virginia's Republican candidates is now on the record.  All four Republican candidates espoused their views and credentials to earn the Republican nomination for United States Senate. All four candidates participated, including: former Governor George Allen, E.W. Jackson, Delegate Bob Marshall and Jamie Radtke.

For a quick summary of the debate, I would choose E.W. Jackson as the winner of the debate.  Surprised?  If you have heard E.W. speak, you would be impressed.  His ministerial background and persona connected and captured the attention of the audience.  He was not over the top with his delivery.  Just on the mark and confident with a shot of energy.  He offered solid conservative solutions to the questions posed to him.  He did not have any gaffes or hesitations.  E.W. commanded the attention and new found respect of many conservatives who attended.

Our runner-up for the debate is Delegate Bob Marshall.  He broke the ice time and again with one liners.  Which helped him warm up to the audience.  He quickly changed gears with a serious tone offering solid answers that were in line with conservative solutions for protecting our rights through the Constitution.

Former Governor George Allen had a balanced performance.  He produced good sound answers to a variety of different questions.  His themes he touched on were the economy, protecting citizens rights, unleashing energy resources and supporting the second amendment.  Allen warmed to the crowd in a gentle manner.  But not to the latitude of E.W. Jackson.  The former Governor did not have any slip ups or snarls.

I'll have to say Jamie Radtke under performed.  She is considered the main contender behind front runner George Allen.  She needed to land some blows to Allen during the debate.  She let loose a couple of rhetorical swings towards him, but they were ineffective.  Her demeanor came off cold and never really warmed up to the audience or panelists.  Of the four candidates, she had the most controversial statement.  Radtke stated, "The best defense against the federal government is the second amendment."  Her statement was not entirely well received or timely following a unrelated, provoking remark last week by rocker Ted Nugent which caused a flap with the Secret Service.

The debate concluded with a swarm of media and thoughts of the next debate.  Following the debate, the media swarmed around front runner George Allen and his wife, Susan  The next debate will be held in Hampton on May 11.

ROMNEY, MCDONNELL TOUR VIRGINIA

The Romney 2012 campaign announced that Governor Bob McDonnell will be with Mitt Romney for a campaign event in Portsmouth.  The event will focus on the energy resources and the economy.  Specifically, support for businesses to expand operations and job growth.  Romney and McDonnell will kick off the event Thursday at 12:45pm at Crofton Industries of Portsmouth.

What is most interesting is Mitt Romney's apparent test run with Vice-Presidential hopefuls.  Republican  Presidential front runner, Mitt Romney, has been hop scotching through many states with several speculated VP short listers.  Recently, Romney has held several campaign events together with the likes of VP favorite, Marco Rubio.  Romney also has had events with others, including:  Chris Christie, Rob Portman and Kelly Ayotte.  It has been rumored Romney has a short list of about 15 names he is considering.

Now the spotlight turns to Virginia's Governor, Bob McDonnell.  McDonnell could be sought for several key strengths.  The Virginia Governor brings experience as a executive, a record of job & business growth, popularity with a key electoral state, and a winning record as a candidate.  Romney will likely consider his ability to work one on one with McDonnell.

Mitt Romney has made a several stops through Virginia this week.  He had a event in Arlington with supporters focusing on the economy and connecting with grassroots Republicans & conservatives.  Wednesday Romney will hold a public event in Chantilly at Exhibit Edge, a company that produces technology for trade shows and exhibits.
