Yes, the flood of campaign advertisements is bustling throughout battleground states at a seemingly nauseating pace.  Yet, one video has crossed the line by a Super PAC organization called Priorities USA.

The premise of the video is to charge that a action by Bain Capitol affecting a 2001 business closing and loss of employment for Mr. Joe Soptic resulted in the death of his wife.  The video presented shows Joe Soptic stating the loss of his job resulted in the loss of health care for his wife.  This premise is designed to complicate Presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the death of Mrs. Soptic.

Let's punch some holes in the whole premise of this video:

  • Mr. Soptic lost employment from the Missouri Steel Company in 2001.
  • The steel factory closed due to China undermining the entire U.S. steel market.
  • Mitt Romney did not work for Bain Capitol during this business closure.
  • Romney left Bain Capitol in 1999 to run the Olympics in Salt Lake City.
  • Mr. Soptic's wife passed away in 2006.
  • Romney served a Governor of Massachusetts from 2003-2007.
  • The company Soptic worked for is required to offer COBRA insurance to unemployed workers.
Another note of the character of Mitt Romney and a counter to Mr. Soptic's charge of Mitt "not understanding".  Mitt Romney knows personally of the heartache and challenges of having a family member battle cancer.  His wife, Ann Romney, had breast cancer and successfully recovered.  Ann has mentioned in numerous interviews how Mitt was with her to get through the treatments.  Mitt continues to support Ann as she continues to battle Multiple Sclerosis.

Now on to the headline of this post.  Under Federal law no campaign is to coordinate, instruct or cooperate with the operations of any Super Political Action Committee (PAC).  The result of such cooperation could result in serious fines and possible suspension of campaign funds.  These fines and suspensions would be levied on the Super PAC and the campaign.

Documents and a tape of a phone conference with Soptic and Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter indicate that the Obama campaign did know of this information as of May 14, 2012.  The information about the Soptic's story was obtained by Obama campaign opposition research.

Should this be the case with the Obama campaign aiding and assisting Priorities USA Super PAC, then when will the charges and investigation begin?  Oh that's right, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is in charge.  The truth is no investigation will take place.  If it did the bureaucracy of Washington would take forever to reach the point of court hearings or fines.  Considering that there are less than 90 days remaining in the election, the Obama campaign is insulated by time from facing justice.
