| DEMOCRAT TIM KAINE |
Just weeks ago UVA Board of Visitor (BOV) and Rector Helen Dragos was the central figure in the ousting of popular University President Teresa Sullivan. Dragos' mismanagement of the whole situation has caused serious internal and external affair issues for the prestigious university. UVA faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members were outraged at the sudden dismissal of the newly popular president. As Rector, Helen Dragos is in charge of communicating BOV decisions to the public. Closed door meetings and lack of effective communications have led to continued discontent. Articles in the Virginia-Pilot, Daily Progress and others place scorn on Dragos' incompetence. In fact, several tenured faculty members and at least one BOV member have resigned. UVA admits this is bad public relations that will impact admissions, faculty retention/recruitment, grants, and alumni monetary contributions.
While much focus is on the failure of Dragos, many are now looking to the one who put her in power. Current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine (D) appointed Helen Dragos to serve on the UVA Board of Visitors while he was Governor of Virginia. His appointment of Dragos brings to light Kaine's inability to effectively serve as an executive. Democrat Kaine's term as Governor the Commonwealth of Virginia experienced significant economic decline. The quality of many of Kaine's appointments to various state boards and commissions is now coming under due scrutiny. This speaks to Kaine's lack of judgement and competence in serving in a executive position.
Further, if Kaine cannot make qualified appointments as a Governor, how can the Commonwealth's citizens entrust him as a U.S. Senator?
