The Florida legislature is making a move to squeeze out a solid conservative from the 22nd Congressional district.  Congressman Allen West's current district is being realigned by the state legislature with a starkly more democratic population.  Reports have revealed pressure from the DNC, specifically the DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, on Demoncratic Florida representatives to make it difficult for Allen West to win re-election  in November.  West's 22nd Congressional distict neighbors the district of Wasserman-Schultz in Florida.

Florida, as with most states, is in the midst of settling out their Congressional redistricting based on the population changes reported in the 2010 U.S. Census.  State legislatures must align their Congressional districts following the census results.  This redistrictng must be completed prior to the next election period.  "Gerrymandering" or tinkering with a district to bump out a incumbent is typically the action of a opposing party.  The vexing part of this situation is that the Republicans control both houses of the Florida legislature.

West was first elected to Congress in 2010, during the Republican take over of the U.S. Congress.  In 2008, he successfully defeated incumbent Democrat Ron Klein by a 9.4% margin.  West is considered one of the stars of the Tea Party.  He received the endorsement of Sarah Palin during his last campaign.    West is a straight talking representative who rises to the attention of the media for his defense of liberty and the Constitution.  He is a strong defender of the military serving on the Congressional Armed Services Committee.  He recently was outspoken about the progressive tactics of Senator Harry Reid(D) and Representative Nancy Pelosi(D).

Congressman West is a decorated Army veteran with 22 years of service.  He earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with several citations including the Bronze Star.  He commanded the 2nd Battallion, 20th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division in Iraq until his retirement in 2004.  Since his military retirement, he has resided in Planation, Florida, with his wife and two daughters.

Congressman West stated yesterday on Fox News he would pursue a neighboring Congressional district, if the alignment is too arbitrary.
